Total Physiotherapy Response to COVID-19

As healthcare providers, Total Physiotherapy shares in the global concern about COVID-19. We are coordinating with Houston Health Centre and Northern Health to make sure we have measures in place to support our commitment to your health and safety.

UPDATE APRIL 1, 2020 - our Houston clinic is closed in response to COVID-19. If you think you might need our help, please email admin@totalphysio.ca. Thank you.

Essential Services

As a result, starting March 23, 2020 Total Physiotherapy will be moving to an essential service model. The Houston clinic will be providing clinical physiotherapy services on Mondays and Wednesdays only. Physiotherapy sessions will be spaced so the chances of you coming into contact with another patient is highly unlikely. The spacing will also provide our staff with more time to ensure our high levels of sanitation are maintained.

The essential service model means we will be providing clinical physiotherapy services only to people who meet one of the following criteria:

  1. You are providing essential services to the community and physiotherapy is needed to help you continue to deliver these services; or
  2. Halting your clinical physiotherapy treatment now will result in permeant detriment to your recovery.

Northern Health have asked us to minimize the number of people in the Houston Health Centre. Please ask people who travel with you to your appointment to not come inside with you. A parent is expected to attend your child's appointment. If support is necessary for your appointment please contact our clinic on 250 845 5953.

Accessing Total Physiotherapy

To minimise exposure we are opening the back door at HHC for you to come to your appointment. Push the buzzer and one of our staff will meet you at the door. You will be asked the key questions below at that time. This will be the door used to leave your appointment. Our doors will only be opened to people who have a scheduled appointment. This means you will not be able to make appointments by dropping by the clinic. To make an appointment please phone 250 845 5953.

The Key Questions

When you make an appointment, AND when you arrive for your appointment you will be asked these 4 questions.

  1. Do you have a fever or a cough?
  2. Have you returned from travel in the last 14 days?
  3. Have you been in contact with anyone who has returned from travel in the past 14 days?
  4. Have you been in contact with anyone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?

Measures for your Safety

At Total Physiotherapy we have always considered your health and safety one of our primary responsibilities. Our treatment tables and tools are always sanitized between patients, and linens used replaced with clean linens. Our staff regularly wash and sanitize their hands, and sanitiser is available for your use in our clinic. With the support of Northern Health we are taking our commitment further. Pillows will not be used unless you request one, sanitizer, masks and gloves are available at the desk, our waiting room chairs have been spaced out to 2 metres apart, our desks, waiting room surfaces, reception area and any common spaces will be sanitized hourly, the magazines have been removed.

Cancelling Your Appointment

If you need to cancel your appointment, you can do this by phone 250 845 5953 or by email to admin@totalphysio.ca. To help us manage our response, please let us know if you are cancelling your appointment due to concerns about COVID-19.

Alternative Treatment Options - Telehealth

Total Physiotherapy has been providing TeleHealth video-link services to our industry clients since March 2016. In response to COVID-19 are offering this service to people who are self-isolating. TeleHealth involves you and your therapist communicating over a video link appointment. We are currently beta-testing the Jane App. Some services may be able to be provided by  FaceTime, Messenger, WhatsApp or Skype. If you want to know if TeleHealth might work for you email admin@totalphysio.ca.

Hydrotherapy and Gym Therapy

The District of Houston has closed the Houston Leisure Centre. This affects therapy programs we run in the pool and gym. We have contacted all patients who have scheduled hydrotherapy or gym therapy sessions and discussed their options. Our Rehab program has temporarily relocated to the Seniors Centre and all scheduled participants have been contacted to discuss how the program will continue.

Thank you for choosing Total Physiotherapy
